LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball program led the state with a combined total number of eight first and second team selections on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) 2024 All-Louisiana Collegiate Softball Team.

The Ragin’ Cajuns produced two-or-more All-Louisiana First Team performers for the 38th time in as many opportunities. On the 2024 squad, Louisiana garnered a state-high tying four first team selections along with LSU and Southeastern Louisiana.

The first team contingent included: Sam Landry (pitcher), Alexa Langeliers (second base), Brooke Ellestad (third base) and Mihyia Davis (outfield). It’s the 15th time in the last 16 All-Louisiana teams that UL had four-or-more first team representatives.

The Ragin’ Cajuns four selections on the All-Louisiana Second Team marked the most amongst the state schools and included: Chloe Riassetto (pitcher), Victoria Valdez (catcher), Sam Roe (first base) and Laney Credeur (designated player).

Davis was selected as the state’s Hitter of the Year and Ellestad was named Newcomer of the Year. It’s the seventh consecutive time that Louisiana claimed multiple major awards, and the fifth straight edition of All-Louisiana with a Ragin’ Cajun capturing the top hitter’s accolade.

Davis produced 91 hits this season to rank No. 2 in NCAA Division I. She hit .419, stole 23 bases and was chosen Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year.

Ellestad, a junior from Kimberly, Wis., and a transfer from St. Thomas (Minn.), hit .351 with 54 RBI – the most by a Cajun since 2017 – and nine home runs. She was Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year.

Davis becomes the first non-pitcher in the sport’s 38-year All-Louisiana history to win Freshman of the Year, then win a major award the next season. The Ragin’ Cajuns have now won 82 of 179 major awards all-time (46 percent).

A Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel of sports media and college softball publicists selected the 38th edition of the All-Louisiana Softball team, based on statistics and performances through the NCAA postseason.
