Two juveniles arrested following vandalism at Meche’s Donuts

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, just after 2:30 a.m., the New Iberia Police Department responded to the 400 block of East Saint Peter Street to investigate a report of property damage possibly caused by gunshots.

Upon arrival, Officers found a business with shattered windows in the 400 block of East Saint Peter Street. At the time of the incident, the business was occupied by workers. While investigating, it was determined that a BB gun caused the damage.

Two suspects were identified and arrested.

17-year-old Luke Bienvenu of Saint Martinville and a 16-year-old male juvenile of Saint Martinville were charged with Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Assault, and firing an air gun within the city limits.

This is an ongoing investigation; more arrests are possible.

At this point in the investigation, it is believed these were random acts of vandalism committed by these individuals and the business was not a specific target.
