Shrimp Festival schedule announced

The Delcambre Shrimp Festival is slated to take place next month with carnival rides, food and lots of music. 

The 72nd Delcambre Shrimp Festival is getting closer in Iberia Parish, with festival organizers playing a week full of great food, music and carnival rides that the whole family can enjoy.

The festival takes place Aug. 14-18 at the Shrimp Festival Grounds in Delcambre. On Aug. 13, a festival blood drive will take place at the Texaco Fuel Depot with each donor being able to receive a free session carnival pass.

The festival officially opens on Aug. 14 with family night at the street fair at 6:30 p.m. Music by Nicole Marie will take place at 7 p.m. Family night will also take place on Aug. 15 at the same time, with Swampland Revival playing at 7 p.m. that night.

The festival begins in earnest on Aug. 16, with fais-do-do music beginning at 7 p.m. featuring Jr. La Crosse and Sumtin’ Sneaky, Dustin Sonnier and Dillon Carmichael playing throughout the night.

On Aug 17, the Shrimp Cookoff takes place at 9 a.m. followed by the judging and tasting starting at 1 p.m.

Cajun Roots, Krossfyre, The Beau Young Band and Jaryd Lane are slated to play that night, as well as the main act Chris Cagle.

The festival closes out Aug. 18 with a Fishermen’s Mass at the Shrimp Festival Building followed by the Blessing of the Fleet at 10 a.m. A fais-do-do will follow under the pavilion with music from Ryan Foret and the Foret Tradition. Concessions close at 5 p.m.
