Iberia Parish Animal Control needs your help.

If you’ve been contemplating adding a furry addition to your family, or if you know of anyone, now is the time to take advantage of reduced fee adoptions.

The Bissell Pet Foundation is sponsoring reduced adoption fees through the end of the month with its Empty the Shelters campaign Dogs are $50; cats $30. Fees, which will increase to $100 on Aug. 1, include spay/neuter, microchip and rabies vaccination.

The Animals of IPAC Facebook page posted this week that the shelter is in “crisis mode” due to overpopulation. A dog was adopted on the first and second day of Empty the Shelters, but none since.

“We have a variety of dogs right now,” shelter manager Amanda Istre said. “Mainly pit-bull mixes, but we have some German Shepherds, hound mixes and lab mixes.”

This week’s featured shelter pets are Edward, Nessie, Chance and Lady.

Edward is a three-year-old pit mix who Istre said comes “with a big personality and big ears to match.” He is one of many heartworm negative dogs currently at IPAC.

Recently, Edwards took a trip to the house of a volunteer, who said, “if you haven’t met this gorgeous boy, I dare you to meet him and not fall head over heels in love.”

Nessie, a three-year-old hound mix, was found in Feb. as a stray. The volunteers have dubbed her “an All-American Girl” for her ability to brighten up a room with her sunny disposition, according to Istre, who added: “She has a beautiful coat pattern and is good with other dogs.”

Chance, a pit mix approaching his second birthday, was dropped off at the shelter after being found as a stray by a concerned citizen.

Lady (2.5 yo) is a hound/boxer/lab mix who also got a respite from the shelter. The volunteer noted that Lady “sits on command and wants nothing more than to be by your side.” Istre added, “Lady just wants attention and affection, and she has a lot of that to give.”

Interested in adopting? Please contact the shelter at (337) 364-6311. You can set up a meet and greet with a dog or cat from 12 P.M. to 3 P.M. on Mon.-Fri.

IPAC is located at 2017 Seaway Access Road in New Iberia.
