For a few more days, residents can adopt a dog or cat for a reduced fee at Iberia Parish Animal Control.
The Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event, which lowered adoption fees to $50 for dogs and $30 for cats, continues through July 31.
So far, three dogs have been adopted. A fourth, Nix, is going on a trial weekend visit with a prospective family. Two cats were adopted this week.
There was more good news. IPAC received its largest donation of cat food ever – two truckloads full – from Elite Marine and Powersports in New Iberia, which will help feed the overflow of felines.
Taz, a dog who came into the shelter with a broken leg, was tagged by a rescue group which will ensure he receives medical treatment and finds a forever home.
The week’s Shelter Pets of the Week are Enos, Brooke, Maxwell and Ally.
Enos is a good-natured six-year-old pit bull mix who loves a popsicle on a muggy summer day. IPAC manager Amanda Istre says he is a “lively” boy who gets along well with other dogs.
Brooke (3.5 years old) is a heartworm negative, brindle pit bull who behaves well in her kennel, walks well on a leash and even doesn’t mind baths.
Maxwell (1.5 y/o) is a lovable Heintz 57, the term given to a true mixed dog. Istre estimated that Maxwell has some Shepard and Labrador in his background, adding that he is “a perfect gentleman” with “glamorous ears.”
Aly (2.5 y/o) has “a lot of personality,” Istre said. She loves a good run and ear rubs and delights in showing affection to people.
Interested in adopting? Please contact the shelter at (337) 364-6311. You can set up a meet and greet with a dog or cat from 12 PM to 3 PM on weekdays.
IPAC is located at 2017 Seaway Access Road in New Iberia.
