- Parents and children attend the presentation ceremony for the Iberia Parish Library's youth art contest.
Iberia Parish’s young artists had their chance to shine this weekend when the Iberia Parish Library capped off their month-long youth art contest at the Main Branch.
Community Coordinator Erica Romero said the event was the first of its kind and began in early June when the library solicited young artists to pick up a canvas at the Main Branch and paint to their heart’s content, as long as they returned the canvas between June 1 and July 19.
“I’m so blown away by everything we have,” Romero said.
The artists participating ranged from all ages and the canvases were hung at the Main Branch last week for the public to view.
Parents and children were able to see the fruit of their work at the Main Branch when Romero and the L’Acadian Art Guild presented certificates to the youngsters who attended to see the fruit of their hard work.
“I’m very happy about it,” Romero said. “We had 34 entrees, which isn’t bad for our first year.”
