The Pride of Cajunland band capped off a successful, though scorching, band camp on Wednesday with its annual Band Bash performance at The Hive.

Despite losing several days outside due to rain, and battling temperatures over 110 degrees each day, the band concluded camp with a new show ready to perform under the Friday Night Lights.

Drum major Sofia Truong said that she was proud of how far the band had come during camp, which was often mired in a difficult combination of heat and rain.

“It was amazing to see all the girls and guys come together and improve over these eight days,” Truong said. “It’s all down to our band moms. They set up concessions and drinks for us and refill our jugs that we have. We all try to be positive and to be better every day, that really helps to keep us going through the heat and everything.”

The Band Bash showcased the band’s new show, which features a new composer and choreographer than in years past. Troung said she expects this year’s performances to be even better than last year’s.

“I think that each show is its own thing, but this show is going to be way better than anyone expects,” she said. “Everyone is working so hard and the senior class is giving 110% to make sure we meet the standard.”

Truong, who started her career with the NISH band as a color guard captain, said she transitioned to drum major due to a need for senior leaders.

Truong, a future electrical engineer who plans to attend LSU next year, said she is optimistic about the upcoming season and has several goals that she wants both the band and herself to achieve.

“I’m hoping that the whole band starts to come together more and strives for bigger and better goals,” she said. “It’s not about winning first place, because at the end of the day it isn’t about trophies, but we want to get off the field with no regrets. Personally, I want to become a better leader and make a positive difference to everyone that’s involved in the organization.”

The NISH band will perform at all Yellow Jacket home games. Fans can see the band, and football team, for the first time on Sept. 13, when NISH hosts Central Lafourche.
