Teche Area talent fills roster at SLU

HAMMOND – The football roster at Southeastern Louisiana University is packed with Teche area players.
KK Reno (Catholic High), Blayne Delahoussaye (Westgate), Keydrain Calligan (Westgate), Shea Lee (CHS), Jaydun Colbert (Westgate) and Eugene Foulcard (Hanson Memorial) are on the SLU roster.
Reno, a 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker, ranked sixth on the team with 41 tackles. He collected a season high seven tackles at Eastern Washington and will wear the No. 0 jersey after wearing No. 32 last year.
Delahoussaye, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound redshirt junior defensive back, played in five games and started two. He was credited with five tackles – two vs. Mississippi State and three (with an interception) vs. Texas A&M Commerce.
Calligan, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior, comes to the Lions following stops at Louisiana-Monroe and Jackson State, where he recorded a combined 62 tackles, four tackles for loss, six pass breakups and an interception.
Lee (6-0, 165) and Colbert (5-11, 180) are redshirt freshmen defensive backs. Colbert signed with Army out of high school. Foulcard (5-8, 165) is a redshirt freshman running back.
Former NISH running back/defensive back Markell Linzer, who was eighth on the team in tackles in 2023, transferred to Grambling State.
SLU also has several Lafayette area players: receiver Jaylon Domingeaux (Comeaux), linebacker Ashton Bellaire (Vermilion Catholic), receiver Errol Rogers (Lafayette Christian), defensive back Raylon Hill (Acadiana) and defensive back Tylon Cooper (Eunice).
Domingeaux was sixth on the team in receiving (16-196, two TDs) as a true freshman. Cooper played in 10 games. Rogers previously played at Liberty University and UL.
The Lions went 3-8 last year, winning three of their last four after an 0-7 start that included three single-digit losses. In 2022, SLU went 9-4 (5-1) with a 45-42 playoff win over Idaho and a 48-42 loss to Samford.
Former Loreauville and SLU defensive back Zy Alexander, who is now at LSU, returned an interception for a TD in the win over Idaho.
SLU begins the 2024 season at Tulane on Thursday, August 29.
