Bayou Teche Museum receives history grant

The Bayou Teche Museum in downtown New Iberia was the recent recipient of a $25,000 grant that will go toward the museum’s mission.

Museum officials said a grant from The Institute of Museum and Library Sciences was recently received, and will allow the museum to work on history kiosks.

“When completed, our local community and visitors will be able to access the history and culture of the Bayou Teche region from interviews recorded with individuals who lived or may still live in the area,” according to a prepared statement.

The mission of IMLS is to advance, support, and empower America’s museums, libraries, and related organizations through grantmaking, research, and policy development.

The agency carries out its charge as it adapts to meet the changing needs of the nation’s museums and libraries and their communities. IMLS’s mission is essential to helping these institutions navigate change and continue to improve their services.

The grant was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
