The Westgate team takes a break for a photo during the Tigers' scrimmage against Carencro. 

The 2024 high school football season has officially begun for Westgate as the Tigers played host to the Carencro Bears on Thursday evening.

The scrimmage, which featured much of the depth chart performing a set number of plays in various game situations, is the final contest the Tigers will take part in before facing off against crosstown rival New Iberia Senior High in the opening day of the Iberia Parish Jamboree.

Several players, old and new, were able to put in excellent performances against the Bears.

The team also took the time to honor one of their own. Junior lineman Bryson Olivier, who has autism, was given the opportunity to run in a touchdown accompanied by his teammates.
