The Lydia Cancer Association's Cajun Food Fest returns to Lydia on Sept. 13.

The Lydia Cancer Association’s Cajun Food Festival is just a few weeks away and plans to bring an exciting weekend to the unincorporated area of Iberia Parish.

A variety of dishes that can only be found in Louisiana will be doled out on Sept. 13 and 14 at Weeks Park Road, along with several live musical performances that will be playing throughout the two-day event.

The festival kicks off at 5 p.m. on Sept. 13, with musical performances from The Hands of Time and Seasoned Soul kicking off the Cajun Food Festival.

The annual cookoff will begin at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 14, with a car show put on by Cruisin Cajun Country starting at 9 a.m. The event is an open car show and all makes and models will be welcomed. Awards for the car show will be given at 2 p.m.

The cancer survivor walk, which helps to raise awareness for the main purpose of the event which is raising money for local cancer patients, will take place at 10 a.m.

Music from Corny and Friends, Curley Taylor and the Zydeco Trouble and the Quarter Shots Band will play throughout the day, along with the Bad Boys Band and Highway 90.

A craft show will start at 11 a.m., and the awards ceremony for this year will be at 4:30 p.m.

The event is a fundraiser for the Lydia Cancer Association, which raises funds for cancer patients in Iberia, St. Martin, St. Mary and Vermilion parishes. The association was officially formed in 2003 when members saw an urgent need for financial assistance to local cancer victims.

It was initially formed by James Frawley Jr., a cancer victim who wanted to help in the cure for cancer and was assisted by the Morton Salt Relay for Life team, according to event information.
