WIlliams said the program is looking for tutors to staff the program after offering a feeding program for students during the summer.

“We did the summer program to feed the kids and there was no cost to anyone,” Williams said. “We’re looking for community involvement.”

WECARE is stationed at the old American Legion building on Irish Bend Road and fed thousands over the summer, Williams said.

The non-profit was able to get funding from the USDA for the summer food program. The next step is to hopefully tap more teachers to aid students for the new semester.

Williams, who is a teacher at Franklin High School, said she volunteers her time to tutor students after school as part of WECARE.

“We’re in the process of getting funding now,” she said.

In other business, the St. Mary Parish Council approved for introduction 11 amendments to the home rule charter as recommended by the committee commissioned to review the charter.

It will come back for final approval at next month’s meeting.
