Marcia was born in Edinburgh, Texas on June 2, 1959, to the late James Richard Callicott and Betty Brock Callicott Driggers, and was a longtime resident of New Iberia. She was a 1978 graduate of New Iberia Senior High, then worked as a dental and orthodontic assistant and lab technician for many years for Dr. Robert Chastant and Dr. Donald Henagan.
She then sold billboard advertising for Great Outdoor Advertising. She started her own billboard company in 1995 called “Outdoor Attractions Advertising.”
Marcia enjoyed camping trips, dining out, and dancing with her husband, Gene, to the great dance bands in South Louisiana. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, home and cooking shows, and being creative. Marcia
enjoyed fun competition, orchestrating fun games with her family or hosting her beloved Bourree’ card game; she was always delighted to help bring joy and laughter to every gathering. Marcia was known for her love
of organizing events and the use of her creative capabilities. She will be fondly remembered the most for her ability to bring people together through her delicious meals and the many holiday gatherings at her home. Above all, Marcia had a compassionate nature to all and adored her family endlessly. She will be missed greatly by all those who were blessed to know and love her.
Mrs. Romero is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Gene Romero; son, Jason P. Romero; brother, Richard Shane Callicott (Deborah); sister, Jeannine Callicott Collins (Neil); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Renee Callicott Crawford; nephew, Jessie Crawford; sister-in-law, Vickie Romero Lasserre; and brother-in-law, Stacey Romero.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Collins family for all of their help and support during Marcia’s illness; to Heart of Hospice; and to the doctors, nurses and staff of Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center for extraordinary care and compassion.
