Early voting in Iberia Parish ended this week with more than 12,000 local voters showing up to cast their ballot in anticipation of the Nov. 5 presidential election as well as several local and state races.
By early Tuesday, the last day for early voting, the Iberia Registrar of Voters counted 12,379 total Iberia Parish residents who cast a vote at the Iberia Parish Courthouse or early voting location at Jeanerette City Hall.
Of those, 10,705 showed up in-person to early vote while 1,674 were absentee votes.
Those casting a vote were asked to decide a number of important races, including the 2024 U.S. presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. In addition, significant Iberia Parish races included the District 3 race for Congress, where U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins is running for re-election.
Municipal races include the New Iberia City Council, which has several races that will decide the makeup of next year’s local government in New Iberia, as well as a mayoral, aldermen and a chief of police race in Delcambre.
Early voting saw more men than women casting a vote this year, with 6,955 women counted early Tuesday along with 5,422 men.
Election day is Nov. 5. Those who did not vote early will be able to cast their ballot at their designated polling place. To find more information about your polling place, go to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website.
