New faces added to New Iberia City Council

Tuesday night’s New Iberia City Council elections ended with several new faces coming to city government, as well as some that are familiar.
Mayor Pro Tem Ricky Gonsoulin will be getting a second term after defeating opponent Deidre Ledbetter, who has served as councilman for District 4 for two terms. Final votes showed Gonsoulin finished with 61% of the vote, or 6,090 New Iberia residents voting for him. Ledbetter finished with 39% of the vote, or 3,908 voters. Unofficial turnout was 55.3%.
District 2 of the City Council will be seeing a runoff in December. With outgoing council member Marlon Lewis departing from the board of trustees, candidates Rosalind Bobb and Warren White will be running in a runoff to determine the new representative of District 2. Candidate Ben Meyers came in third.
Bobb finished the night with 39% of the vote, or 440 voters in her favor. White finished with 38%, or 433 voters.
In District 3, candidate Troy Comeaux managed to avoid a runoff by securing more than 50% of the vote against two opponents. By the end of the night, Comeaux finished with 58% of the vote, or 744 District 3 voters in his favor. Phanat Xanamane came in second place with 34% of the vote, while Roy Crews came in third with 8%.
Finally, the District 5 council race will be seeing a runoff as well after four candidates qualified to run in the district. Krystal Boyance and Ron Davis were the top two candidates of the night, with Boyance finishing with 44% of the vote, or 618 votes. Davis ended Tuesday with 36% of the vote, or 502 votes.
