The St. Mary Parish Council will hear from several local residents about the renaming of Sorrell Community Park at Wednesday’s regular meeting. 

Councilman Craig Mathews has introduced an ordinance to rename the park to Laddy Jean Butler Sorrel Community Park, and the public will have a chance to give their opinion on the potential change during a public hearing held at 5:45 p.m.

Latasha Charles and Cynthia Gabriel are also scheduled to speak during the regular meeting on the ordinance, which will be voted for adoption later at the meeting. 

In other business, Councilman Jay Ina will introduce a discussion regarding a wage comparability study and organizational study for St. Mary Parish Government. 

Inal will also discuss and possibly introduce action regarding the St. Mary Parish personnel manual. 

Finally, Atchafalaya Golf Course Chairperson Rudy Sparks and commissioners of the golf course will come before the council to discuss the greens at the Atchafalaya at Idlewild Golf Course.
