Principals of the Year recognized at school board meeting

The Iberia Parish School District named the Principals of the Year and Assistant Principals of the Year during Wednesday’s school board meeting, with a large audience in attendance to celebrate the accomplishments of those selected. 

The award is given on the elementary, middle school and high school levels and candidates are nominated and selected by the Iberia Principal’s Association. 

For the elementary division, Delcambre Elementary School Principal Jodi Romero was chosen for the award. Romero has 26 years in education, all of which have been served in Iberia Parish. She is serving her 12th year at Delcambre and said she was extremely proud to be the principal in her own hometown.

Romero thanked the staff and faculty at Delcambre Elementary, saying it is their dedication that allows students to reach their greatest potential. 

For the Assistant Principal of the Year in the elementary division, Annie Barras from North Lewis Elementary was selected. Barras was not in attendance for the award. 

Iberia Middle School Principal Emily Dupre was selected as Principal of the Year for the middle school division. Dupre was also unable to be in attendance. 

Laine Judice with Loreauville High School was chosen as Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year. Judice is a graduate of Loreauville High and has taught 7th and 8th grade math in the past. 

“She can’t imagine doing her job anywhere else,” Assistant Superintendent Neely Moore said. 

Loreauville High Principal David Broussard was selected as Principal of the Year for the high school division. Broussard has 24 years in education, having taught at Jeanerette Senior High and 15 years at Loreauville High. Broussard has helped lead Loreauville to earning an “A” rating for several years and he thanked faculty and staff for helping to ensure students are getting the best education possible. 

Westgate High School Assistant Principal Kristi Romero was selected as the Assistant Principal of the Year for the high school division. Romero is a Westgate graduate herself and taught kinesiology for years before earning a master’s degree and becoming assistant principal at Westgate.
