Male Athlete of the Week

Tyler Blissett, Highland Baptist Cross Country

Junior Tyler Blissett’s trophy cabinet got a little more crowded last week as he defended his crown to claim a third-consecutive Division V state title with a time of 15:50.11. Even more impressive than the win was the manor in which he achieved it, crossing the finish line and opening up a post-race drink before the second place runner ever entered the track.

Devine Duhon, Jeanerette Football

Sophomore Devine Duhon has been nothing short of unstoppable all season, capping off a series of top performances with a dominant display in Jeanerette’s 46-24 win over Grand Lake. With two two-point conversions and five rushing touchdowns, Duhon accounted for over 73% of the points Jeanerette scored all night.

Anderson Frank, Episcopal of Acadiana Cross Country

Senior Anderson Frank is looking for an even better year than he had in 2023 and started off strong with a second place finish in the Boys Division IV race. Frank’s time of 16:08.34 helped to guide the Falcons to a Division IV runner-up trophy ahead of the team’s state title defense in outdoor track and field.

Luke Landry, Catholic High Football

What more can be said about senior QB Luke Landry other than he is inevitable. Whether on the ground or through the air, Landry has the ability to put points on the board when it matters most. Against Northlake Christian last week, Landry rushed for two TDs and threw for four as the Panthers advanced after a 59-22 win.

Dy’Traevous Lively, Westgate Football

Senior do-it-all athlete Dy’Traevous “Spida” Lively racked up one rushing touchdown, four solo tackles, two two-point conversions and an interception as the Tigers fell to Airline, 42-16, in the second round of the non-Select Division I playoffs.

Dylan Singleton, Loreauville Football

They say it’s hard to beat a good team twice, but Loreauville’s win over No. 2 seed Erath in the second round of the Non-Select Division III playoffs was more a result of senior Texas Tech commit Dylan Singleton’s performance on defense than divine inspiration from the football gods. Singleton anchored a three-man defensive line that held the Bobcats to just 79 rushing yards and seven points all game.

Female Athlete of the Week

Ella Blake, Highland Baptist Cross Country

Sophomore Ella Blake led the way for the Lady Bears at the Division V state meet, placing second with a time of 20:06. Highland fell short of defending their 2023 state title, but with Blake and fourth-place finished Madalynn Salsman returning next season, another appearance on the podium isn’t out of the question.

Jiya Lodha, Episcopal of Acadiana Cross Country/Swimming

Junior runner/swimmer Jiya Lodha had a busy week, placing eighth in the Division IV girls cross country event with a time of 20:26.60 before taking home silver in both the Division IV 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter IM.
