Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at a 1:30 pm Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, for William Alfred Moore, III, age 93, who passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at his residence in Lafayette.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille”s SOUTHSIDE Location on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and will continue on Wednesday from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm in the funeral home.

The Very Reverend Chester C. Arceneaux, VF, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and officiate the services. Entombment will be held in St. John Cemetery Mausoleum in Lafayette.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Virginia Moore; two daughters, Margo Moore Romero and her husband, Stevie, and Robin Moore Ruzic and her husband, Neven; four step-daughters, Debra Dauterive and her husband, Pat, Kathy Klipstein and her husband, Mike, Mary Robicheaux and her husband, Randy, and Rose Lindsey and her husband, David; two stepsons, Kenneth Loyd and his wife, Stacie, and William Loyd and his wife, Nina; one brother, Robert Bobby Moore and his wife, Betty; fourteen grandchildren, Alex, Nicholas, Ema, Jakob, Patrick, Virginia, Blake, Brooke, Annie, William, James, Lauren, Emily, and Kathleen; and numerous great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Mary N. Smith Moore; his parents, Willie and Alice Moore; and two brothers, Samuel Moore and Charles Moore.

Bill, a native of Weeks Island, LA, and a beloved resident of Lafayette, LA, for the past 24 years, passed away leaving behind a legacy of service, hard work, and devotion to his family and faith. He was a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette.

Bill attended high school in Franklin, LA, and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Enlisting in August 1951, he served as a Chinese Morse Radio Intercept Operator in Japan during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. His unit, the 15th Radio Squadron, Mobile, received the Outstanding Unit Award for their exceptional contributions to United Nations air operations during the conflict. Bill was honorably discharged from active duty in August 1955.

Upon returning home, Bill pursued higher education at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now UL Lafayette, earning a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Geology in May 1959. While in college, he excelled as a pitcher on the baseball team and participated in boxing.

Bill began his career with Louisiana Oil Exploration under contract with Texaco, Inc., where he worked on seismic interpretation and exploration. In 1962, he joined Morton Chemical in Weeks Island, LA, progressing to Process Supervisor and later Department Head. He led operations producing activated Bentonite and oversaw mine development in Texas and North Louisiana.

Throughout his career, Bill expanded his expertise, managing plant engineering, barge fleet operations, emergency response, and environmental compliance. His work eventually took him to Illinois, where he served as Environmental Supervisor and contributed to the company’s environmental and safety initiatives until his retirement in June 1999.

In retirement, Bill enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: fishing, shrimping, gardening, and cheering on his favorite football teams. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his unwavering work ethic, and his love for the outdoors.

Bill’s life is a testament to the values of service, integrity, and perseverance, leaving an enduring mark on all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Alex Romero, Nicholas Romero, Jakob Ruzic, Micah Moore, Bradley Reed, and Gordon Rowe.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Stevie Romero and Neven Ruzic.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Bill’s caregivers, especially Becky, Sam, Jennifer, Angela, Raven, Trachall, and Sandra; Dr. Bradley Chastant and Dr. Fadi Malek; and the team at St. Joseph Hospice; for their compassionate care and unwavering support. Your kindness has brought comfort during this difficult time, and we are forever grateful.
