Christmas season is officially here in Iberia Parish, and in the village of Loreauville a celebration to ring in the holiday season took place at Loreauville Park Saturday.

Christmas in the Village, an annual event put on by the Loreauville Community Project, drew in hundreds of people in the Loreauville area and beyond for wholesome family fun as well as music and shopping opportunities at the park. 

Music, fun jumps, food and of course a Christmas tree waiting to get lit up were all part of the Loreauville event, and event-goers said the holiday atmosphere was a perfect outing to inaugurate the Christmas season. 

Alexis Lancon, with her 5-year-old daughter Grace, said she came out of town to attend the event and loved watching her daughter’s face when she met with Santa Claus, who was taking pictures with children in the interior of the main park building. 

“She smiled so big when she saw Santa,” Lancon said. 

Although Christmas in the Village usually takes place in downtown Loreauville near the town hall building, construction work on the future town hall has led to that area being under construction. The event was instead held at the park, which has been a venue in the past for the event.
