Notorious car thief caught, others still at large

The New Iberia Police Department has made an arrest in relation to a string of recent vehicle burglaries.
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 31, 2024, a vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of a hotel on Queen City Drive. Detectives were able to determine locations the vehicle traveled after being stolen.
The NIPD, with the assistance of the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, went to a location off of Migues Road where the vehicle stopped after being stolen. At this location, another vehicle was located inside an abandoned barn in a field. This vehicle was found to have been stolen on the morning of December 31, 2024, from the 900 block of Lynn Circle.
NIPD detectives continued to follow the route the vehicle traveled, obtaining video footage from different locations. At approximately 1:00 p.m. the vehicle that was stolen from Queen City Drive was located in the 1300 block of DeLasalle Drive.
Detectives were able to positively identify one of the suspects as 17-year-old Jase Owens. Detectives obtained arrest warrants on Jase for the charges of Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Simple Burglary, and are searching for a female accompanying Jase in surveillance footage.
At approximately 2:20 p.m., Patrol Officers located a third stolen vehicle in the 600 block of East Saint Peter Street. The vehicle was occupied by a male individual who was also found to be in possession of suspected narcotics. 18-year-old Ja’Bryson Robertson was arrested and charged with Illegal Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of a Schedule I CDS, and Possession of a Schedule II CDS. Robertson was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail. This vehicle was reportedly stolen during the early morning hours of Friday, January 3, 2025, in the area of Ann Street and Pershing Street.
