Several Loreauville High students received accommodations from the Iberia Parish School Board Wednesday after one student took his musical skills to Carnegie Hall and a dance team placed in a national dance competition in Orlando, Fla.

William Stiles was honored by the school board and Superintendent Heath Hulin for his selection to the High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York City last month.

Stiles, a tuba player who has studied music for the past six years, performed with the Honors Orchestra Symphony and Honors Ensemble, which was composed of the highest rated young performers around the world. The opportunity gave William the chance to study with conductors and other students who play at the highest levels.

“Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent demonstrated in his application and audition recording,” Hulin said.

Stiles is a member of the Loreauville Marching Band and serves as the band’s section leader.

Also honored were the Loreauville Tigerette Dance Team, who were granted the opportunity to participate in a national dance team competition for Dance Team Union.

The group competed in a hip-hop competition on a small varsity team on Feb. 15 and were able to advance straight to the finals. The dance team competed again on Feb. 16 and placed 12th in the nation.
