New Iberia’s Barras, Boutte help Cajuns shine on opening night of Bobcat Relays

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Opening up a busy weekend in Texas, the Louisiana track and field team won once and got eight top-10 finishes on Thursday at the Bobcat Relays in San Marcos, Texas.
Camren Hardy claimed the 400m dash with a time of 49.09 for the team’s lone win on the night. Teammate Hunter Ullrich wasn’t far behind, finishing 10th at 50.01. In the women’s 400m, Evalyn Abdmoulaie placed 10th with a time of 1:00.29.
Mehki Boutte had the next best finish on the night, taking fourth in the 200m at 21.34. Also in the event were Jonathan Gamarra who was 17th (21.68) and Ullrich in 30th (21.96), in a tightly contested event. Wrapping up the track events were Dylan Carter in the 100m taking 11th at 11.01 and Jaala Thymes finishing 39th in the 200m at 25.56.
Louisiana had a strong night in the javelin. Marin Barras finished fifth at 135-3/41.22m, just ahead of Ellie Manuel’s 133-2/40.60m, placing her sixth. Freshman Will Howard was fifth on the men’s side at 195-3/59.51m while Jemar Ferguson was seventh at 193-4/58.93m.
Kay-Lagay Clarke placed 15th in the long jump with her longest jump at 16-11.25/5.16m. Wrapping up the night one results was Oliver Jack’s 20th place finish in the discus at 128-9/39.24m.
