Not many lemonade stands earn thousands of dollars in one day, but the annual fundraiser by New Iberia native Aline Gachassin’s popularity just can’t be beat.
The lemonade stand, which serves as an annual fundraiser and is put on with the help of Aline’s parents Warren and Katley Gachassin, raised $8,800 this year that were donated to the Iberia Mental Health Initiative.
Of course, there was more than just lemonade for the event-goers who headed out to Briarwood Drive to enjoy the event. A Ferris wheel, pet zoo, train for kids and plenty of food was also present for the fundraiser.
The annual event has grown tremendously over the years, with Warren Gachassin, who is also an Iberia Parish councilman, saying that more than $32,000 in total has been raised since the inception of the idea.
This year’s event was most likely the first time that the Briarwood neighborhood was able to host a second line due to the Bunk Johnson Brazz Band joining the schedule this year and performing as part of the event.
With the help of her parents, Aline’s little fundraiser has become the place to be in mid-April in New Iberia, with local and state civic and business leaders often being present to mingle as the event carried on throughout the day.
