New Iberia and its church leaders are mourning the passing of Pope Francis.

Francis, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, died at 88 on Monday, April 21, 2025. He was 88.

As the world reacts to the news of his passing, New Iberia’s St. Peter’s Catholic Church announced that they will come together as a parish to pray this Wednesday after their 5:30 p.m. mass.

“We will come together as a parish to pray the Office for the Dead for Pope Francis and spend a Holy Hour in thanksgiving for his life, mourning for his death, and prayer for his eternal rest in Divine peace,” the church said in a post on social media. 

The public is invited to attend their Wednesday mass and pray for Francis.
