A memorial service celebrating the life of Eddie John Gary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, at Evangeline Funeral Home. Fr. Keith Landry will officiate. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Eddie was born Sept. 10, 1938, in New Iberia to the late Jodean Gary and the late Fedora Daniels Gary. He passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Lafayette General Southwest Campus, with his family at his side.
Eddie, affectionately known by family and friends as “Fast Eddie,” was retired from Coca-Cola with over 31 years of service. Throughout those years, he faithfully served in various capacities and with a strong work ethic. Outside of work, Eddie enjoyed being outdoors. He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting at the family camp, where they also spent their Easter and Christmas holidays together. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and friend to many. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joanna Tabor Gary; his four daughters, Joannie Gary Guillotte and Jerome, Jessica Gary Dubois and Romaine, Julie Gary Rowan and David and Janet Gary Guidry and Gilbert; ten grandchildren, Amber Hebert, Jodean Gary, Bryce Thibodeaux, Jacob Martin, Robert Woolwine, Kody Thibodeaux, Jinna Thibodeaux, Stevee Louviere, Justin Woolwine and Hailee Delcambre; nine great-grandchildren, Braelyn Martin, Drake Hebert, Ethan Hebert, Kenzley Gary, Kinlyn Gary, Espn Gary, Madi Martin, Liam Thibodeaux and Jay Landry; a brother-in-law, Edward Morvant, Sr.; and a niece and nephew, Christine Stroud and Edward Morvant Jr.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alta Morvant, and his step-father, Ray Anderson.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of ICU at Lafayette General Southwest Campus. Your care and compassion shown to both Eddie and the entire family will never be forgotten.
