Public schools, offices will be closed Friday in Iberia, St. Martin and Iberia parishes due to threat of bad weather

CENTERVILLE — Public schools and offices in Iberia, St. Martin and St. Mary parishes will be closed Friday because of inclement weather conditions forecast by the National Weather Service according to the superintendent of schools in all three parishes.
All public schools and offices will have normal hours of operation for the remainder of the day Thursday, including school bus routes, according to Iberia Parish Superintnendent of Schools Dale Henderson; Teresa T. Bagwell, assistant superintendent of St. Mary Parish Schools, and Lottie Beebe, superintendent of St. Martin Parish Schools.
Also in St. Mary Parish, St. John Elementary and Hanson Memorial High Schools (all other Catholic schools in St. Mary Parish are in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux) will be closed Friday, according to the Diocese of Lafayette. The diocese also announced Catholic school closures Friday in Vermilion and Lafayette parishes, except in Scott.
Catholic High School and St. Edward School, both in New Iberia, also will be closed Friday. CHS already planned to close Friday because of the state championship football game the CHS Panthers are playing Thursday night.
The latest forecast calls for light rain mixed with sleet Thursday and Thursday night in east Texas and central Louisiana. However, no accumulation is expected, a NWS spokesman said, but as temperatures drop to near or below freezing late Thursday, there could be slick spots on roads and bridges.
Farther south, by Thursday night into Friday morning, there is a chance of a rain/snow mix across most of the region, the NWS reported. The probablities for snow range from 5- to 10-percent in southeast Texas, 10- to 20-percent in southwest Louisiana and 20- to 30-percent in south central Louisiana. No snow accumulation is expected.
