Downtown New Iberia was transformed into a musical landscape Sunday afternoon as the annual Beneath the Balconies event took place while Main Street was closed off to traffic.

Several famous historic buildings downtown were decorated and used as stages for a number of talented local residents, actors and performers to perform short vignettes that were enjoyed by the large crowd in attendance .

Beneath the Balconies started off at Shadows-on-the-Teche where event-goers enjoyed lunch, and quickly moved to a tour of Main Street with several stops between performing spots as the event moved along.

Beneath the Balconies regularly spotlights performers in the Iberia Performing Arts League community. IPAL members who performed in “Beauty and the Beast” and other productions this year were able to perform one more time as the musical caravan stopped at each location.

Other notable performances included the Bunk Johnson Brazz Band, who leads the procession every year for Beneath the Balconies, as well as singer Bobbie Wilson, Mike Parich and several other spots that were each devoted to a musical segment.
