FROM THE LANES: State handicap championship set; women’s event underway

The Louisiana State USBC Bowling Association 74th Annual Handicap Championship Tournament is set for Baton Rouge.
Team event will take place at Circle Bowl and All Star Lanes will host the singles and doubles.
Tournament dates are June 2-3, 9-10, 16-17 and 23-24.
Squad times for team event will be Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Squad times for singles and doubles will be Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. If squad times are filled some may be added later, on the other hand some squads may be canceled due to low participation.
This is a four person team event and bowlers may compete on three teams but only one doubles and singles.
Rules and regulation and price of each event can be found on the entry blank. Closing date for entries is April 30.
In conjunction with the state tournament the annual state meeting will be held Saturday June 4 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, which is the host hotel for the tournament.

The 2018 Louisiana State USBC Women’s Bowling Association State Championship Tournament is underway at Circle Bowl Baton Rouge.
According to Association Manager Susie Brown, there are 181 teams, 350 doubles, 700 singles, 669 all-events and 128 scratch all-events entries in the tournament.
The 2019 state tournament is set for Lake Charles at Petro Bowl.

For the fourth time in the past five seasons, Australia’s Jason Belmonte has been selected by the bowling news media and his fellow competitors as the GEICO Chris Schenkel Professional Bowlers Association Player of the Year, according to a prepare statement from the PBA.
Belmonte, after becoming the first player in PBA history to win three major championships among his four titles in 2017, was a landside winner in the balloting. At age 34 he joined Mark Roth as a four time- winner of the award. Walter Ray Williams Jr. is the all-time leader with seven Player of the Year awards, followed by the late Earl Anthony with six.
The most successful two-handed player in bowling history led the PBA in earnings ($238,912) and scorning average (a PBA record 229.39 for 380 games bowl) during the 2017 season.
