Funeral services for Mr. Charles E. “Charlie” Hagan, 97, will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, with Father Ed Degeyter officiating. The vocalist will be Mr. Audie Comeaux and the musician will be Mrs. Karen Guidry. Musical selections include, “Be Not Afraid To Come In,” “Psalm 23,” “The Lord is My Shepherd,” “Amazing Grace,” “ Taste and See The Goodness of the Lord” and “On Eagle’s Wings.”  At the conclusion of the services, interment will be held at Rosehill Cemetery on Main Street. 

There will be no viewing on Monday prior to the service and everyone should gather at the church. A visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 3 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. by Mr. R.L. “Victor” Bernard.

Charlie was in the U.S. Armed Services and was an Army veteran. He was a World War II veteran. He served in the invasion of Normandy. He served in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a machine gunner and also served as a barber. Military rites will be conducted graveside by the Iberia Veterans Honor Guard.

In peaceful times, Charlie was an avid camper and bowler. He was an artist, enjoyed putting together model kits, had a love for H.O. trains and was very creative with his hands. 

Charlie was a barber for 70 years. He started out as a barber on Railroad Avenue near the train station in 1946. In 1972, he relocated the business to a new location on Landry Drive where he remained until retiring. Charlie loved to talk and those that knew him would be engaged in a long conversation. Charlie, over the years, would experience the death of many of his customers. He would place their obituaries on his barber shop wall.

Charlie was born on July 22, 1920, in New Iberia. His parents were Mr. Charles E. Hagan Sr. and Lillia Leblanc Hagan. He was married to the love of his life, Victoria Gerami Hagan, for 63 years. Victoria passed away in 2009. They were devoted to their family.

Left behind to cherish his memory are two daughters Jean Thibodeaux and husband, Gerard “Butch,” of Youngsville and Patricia Wakefield and husband, Peter, of Conroe, Texas. Charlie is also survived by eight grandchildren Christopher, Anthony, David and Mark Wakefield, all of Conroe, Texas and Brian Martin of Lafayette, Rachael Martin of Lafayette, Jon Martin of Houston and Valerie Bordelon of Youngsville. 

Charlie was pre-deceased by his parents; his wife, Victoria; two sons Gerald and Ronald Hagan; a half-brother Chester Hagan.

Serving as pallbearers will be family members. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Wiltz Toups.
