The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man believed to be involved in the shooting death of a New Iberia man who was shot Thursday evening.

IPSO spokesman Maj. Wendell Raborn said deputies responded to the St. Edward’s apartment complex in the 900 block of Mississippi Street in reference to a shooting at 6:08 p.m. When deputies got to the scene, they found a 29-year-old black male with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The man was taken to Iberia Medical Center, where he died from the wound, Raborn said.

Raborn said it is believed the victim and 26-year-old Akeam Daniels were involved in an argument when the shooting occurred. Daniels allegedly fled the scene in a 1978 two door white Cadillac with a black top. The license for the vehicle is 698BJX. Raborn said it is believed Daniels has his 2-month-old child with him.

Both the suspect and the victim are residents of New Iberia, Raborn said.

Daniels should be considered armed and dangerous, according to the IPSO spokesman. Anyone with information about Daniels should call the IPSO at 369-3711 or Iberia Crime Stoppers at 364-TIPS.

The murder is the second homicide at St. Edward’s apartment this year. In late January, 27-year-old Kahidrick Mitchell was found dead inside his bullet-hole riddled vehicle near the complex.

It’s also is the third homicide this year in New Iberia, and the fourth in Iberia Parish.
