Executive session on tap for council

City’s contract with IPSO up for discussion

The New Iberia City Council will enter into an executive session to discuss a legal matter at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. 

The session involves litigation in the 16th Judicial District Court. After the session, the council will vote on a resolution authorizing a settlement of claims concerning the lawsuit. 

The council also is scheduled to vote on a resolution accepting the city’s audit report from Kolder, Champagne, Slaven & Co. at the meeting. Auditors with the company will give an overview of the city’s finances during the last fiscal year. 

Two resolutions will authorize New Iberia Mayor Freddie DeCourt to enter into an agreement with Domingue, Szabo & Associates. The first involves the Department of Environmental Quality’s revolving fund loan for projects on Silver Street, Tampico Street and Squirrel Run. 

The second resolution will enter the company into an agreement for repairs for the Tete Bayou wastewater treatment plant.

Another resolution will award a bid to Dixie Electric Inc. for repairs to the tennis courts and basketball pavilion at West End Park. Dixie Electric was the lowest bidder for the project at $71,103. 

In other business, New Iberia Mayor Pro Tem Dan Doerle will bring up a discussion of abandoned swimming pools in New Iberia. Councilwoman Sherry Guidry will give an update on the progress of the Nuisance Ordinance Committee. 

Robby Bethel with the West End Council of Neighborhood Associations will address the City Council on WECNA’s upcoming “SOS: Saving Our Street Teen Summit, Part II” event. The Rev. Zachary Mitchell will address the council on events planned in District 5, and upcoming events in District 6. 

Finally, a public hearing will take place for $3.5 million in sewer revenue bonds, followed by the adoption of an ordinance for the bonds. 

The meeting takes place 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on the third floor of New Iberia City Hall.
