Less than a month ago, Kade Gonsoulin had made up his mind.

The Catholic High senior outfielder-pitcher had already been offered the chance to become a preferred walk-on at LSU-Eunice but other programs were showing interest as well. Jones County Junior College in Mississippi was recruiting the Panthers star, and LSU-Alexandria had even came in with a partial scholarship offer.

Even with the additional attention, Gonsoulin knew that he was supposed to be a Bengal.

“I realized that every time I was thinking about another program or even during a recruiting visit I always came back to Eunice,” Gonsoulin. “I knew then that was the place for me.”

Gonsoulin made it official with a ceremony on Thursday in the CHS library which was filled with family, friends, teammates and coaches.

“One of the things God gives us in this world is to make our own choices,” CHS head baseball coach David Jordan said. “Kade has made some good choices and this is one of them.

“A lot of guys have ability but they don’t work,” Jordan added. “Kade has worked a lot at becoming a better baseball player. He has worked his tail off.”

Gonsoulin was the third star CHS athlete to commit to a school in the LSU system this week.

It started off on Monday when Keaton Arcement signed to play soccer at LSU-Shreveport, followed by Broc Romero signing to play baseball at LSU-Alexandria and now Gonsoulin to LSU-Eunice.

The process for Gonsoulin began last summer when he attended a prospect camp at LSU-Eunice, and fell in love with the thought of playing for a program that has won five national junior college championships since 2006.

“They took me and three other guys on a tour of the campus and baseball facility,” Gonsoulin said. “It just felt like the right place to me.”

For of that appeal is being part of the program’s success of competing for national titles, and sending players on to Division I programs.

“LSU-Eunice has a long history of success,” said Gonsoulin, whose cousin Kelci Bodin plays for the LSU-Eunice softball team. “You can’t really go wrong with being part of that. I want to be part of a winning program.”
