Delcambre, Centerville run wild in openers

DELCAMBRE — Parker Nunez rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns, Tirney Dejean ran for 121 yards and Noah Broussard gained another 101 yards and scored twice as the Delcambre Panthers blasted South Cameron 49-25 Friday in the 2018 football season opener for both teams at Delcambre’s Panther Stadium.

DHS outgained the visiting Tarpons 369-91 on the ground and 448-201 overall. Delcambre quarterback Colt Dooley was an efficient 3-for-4 for 52 yards and a touchdown, covering 27 yards to Nunez. Dooley also scored on the ground.
Delcambre led only 7-0 after one quarter and trailed 14-13 at halftime before exploding for 22 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth while limiting South Cameron to 11 second-half points.
Nunez scored twice in the third quarter on runs of 50 and six yards and Broussard got the first of his two TDs in the third period as well, a 17-yard carry.
Broussard added a 23-yard scoring run in the fourth and Nunez wrapped up scoring with a 47-yard TD run with 5:49 to go.
Delcambre (1-0) travels to Oberlin on Friday for another non-district game.
Centerville 54, Northwood-Lena 19

CENTERVILLE — Andrew Cuvillier rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns, Jaylon Cooks added 112 yards and three TDs as Centerville opened the season Friday with a big home win.
Cuvillier averaged 12 yards a carry and Cooks went at a 14-yard clip per tote for the Bulldogs, who went up 21-6 after one quarter behind a Cooks TD run and two Cuvillier touchdowns.
Morty Frederick and Cuvillier scored on the ground in the second quarter and Don’Trey Freeman returned an interception 34 yards for a score in a 20-0 second quarter for the Bulldogs.
The teams matched each other with 13 points each in the second half, each scoring once in each period. Cooks had both second-half scores for the ’Dogs.
Centerville plays at Ridgewood Prep on Friday.
