CHS falls in 3 sets to E.D. White

Catholic High’s three-match win streak to open the 2018 volleyball season came to a crashing end Tuesday as perennial playoff power E.D. White swept the Lady Panthers 25-16, 25-14, 25-8.

“We were close in all three games but E.D. White went on a run late and we just couldn’t respond,” CHS coach Gary Westcott said.

CHS, which fell to 3-1 on the season, returns to action today at home against Teurlings.

Madison Bienvenu led the Lady Panthers with nine kills and nine digs. Christina Viator added five kills and two blocks, Abigail Richthofen finished with two kills and 13 digs, Anna Angelle had 11 assists, Anna Gonsoulin finished with five assists, Camile Bonin had eight digs and Sydnee Raheem added three blocks.

Individual statistics for E.D. White (4-2) were not available.

Westgate 3, Opelousas 2

Jolie Gary led Westgate with 12 aces and six digs and the Lady Tigers held off an Opelousas High rally to beat the Lady Tigers 22-25, 25-11, 25-9, 23-25, 15-6 Tuesday in a non-district match.

Sophia Babineaux had eight aces and three kills, Kamryn Fontento finished with seven assists, four aces and a kill, Shalyse Davis had two aces and two kills, Nyla Jones had two kills and a block, Megun Laurents had three aces and Ti’Nya Barnes had a kill.

WHS improved to 2-4 on the season and plays host to West St. Mary today at 5 p.m.

Individual statistics for Opelousas High School were not made available to The Daily Iberian.

Abbeville 3, Franklin 1

ABBEVILLE — The Franklin Lady Hornets dropped a four set match on the road Tuesday as Abbeville High came away with a 25-14, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15 non-district win.

Individual statistics for Abbeville were not reported.

For Franklin, Jazmin Brent led the way with six aces, a dig and four assists; Sta’Trail Butler added five aces, three digs and two kills; Makhai Fernandez finished with four kills, two blocks and an ace; Yarilez Quinones ended with four kills and three digs.

Franklin returns to action Thursday against Highland Baptist.
