Catholic High, SMSH move up

- The St. Martinville Tigers moved up to No. 8 in the Class 4A poll after a 55-34 win over Livonia this past week.
Catholic High and St. Martinville each climbed a spot in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association statewide football polls after picking up big district wins this past week.
CHS (5-1 overall, 2-0 District 7-2A) moved up to sixth in Class 2A with its 63-26 win over West St. Mary on Thursday. The Panthers have 60 points and are tied with Isidore Newman (5-1) for sixth in the poll.
St. Martinville (6-0) moved up to eighth in Class 4A after beating previously undefeated Livonia 55-34 in its District 5-4A opener on the road. The Tigers have 44 points in the 4A voting.
Several other teams that play in districts with Teche Area teams are in the polls again this week.
Acadiana (5-1), which plays in District 3-5A with New Iberia, is seventh in Class 5A, falling from No. 4 after suffering a 31-30 loss to Comeaux. Sam Houston (6-0), which also is in the district, has 12 points in the voting.
St. Thomas More (5-1), which beat Westgate 71-20 in the teams’ District 4-4A opener Friday, is ranked fifth in Class 4A. Teurlings Catholic (3-3), also a member of 4-4A, had nine points in the poll.
In Class 3A, Kaplan (3-3), which plays in District 8-3A with Erath, is ranked fifth.
Ascension Episcopal (5-1), a member of District 7-2A, has 10 points in the 2A poll.
In Class A, Lafayette Christian (6-0) is No. 2 and Vermilion Catholic (6-0) is No. 9. Both teams play in District 7-A with area teams Highland Baptist, Hanson and Centerville.
John Curtis (6-0) leads the 5A poll with nine of 10 first-place votes and 119 points with West Monroe second with 111 points.
Karr (6-0) is first in the 4A poll with nine first-place votes and 117 points. Lakeshore is second with 108 points and Northwood (6-0) has the other first-place vote and 96 points to come in third.
University Lab School (6-0) is a unanimous No. 1 in Class 3A with Iota (6-0) second.
Notre Dame (5-0) has nine first-place votes and leads Class 2A with 119 points. Amite (5-1) is second, Dunham (6-0) third and Many (5-1) is fourth with the other first-place vote.
Kentwood (6-0) leads the Single-A poll with eight first-place votes and 114 points. LCA is second with one first-place vote and sixth-place Logansport (6-0) has the other first-place vote.
