The Louisiana Department of Health has scheduled a one-day vaccination event to make it easy to get a flu shot this season. Today from 2 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., no-cost flu shots will be available at parish health units in all regions of the state.

In Iberia Parish, shots will be available at the Iberia Parish Health Unit at 715 B Weldon St. in New Iberia. 

In St. Martin Parish, shots will be available at the St. Martin Parish Health Unit at 303 W. Port St. in St. Martinville.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Louisiana Department of Health recommend a yearly flu shot for everyone over six months of age who does not have a complicating condition, such as a prior allergic reaction to the flu shot.

A flu shot is especially crucial for people who may be at higher risk for serious complications. This includes babies and young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions and people 65 years and older.
