Coroner identifies victim in fatal stabbing

The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the woman killed during a domestic dispute Saturday morning.
According to a spokesman for the coroner’s office, Abigail LeBlanc, 26, of New Iberia, was found stabbed to death at a residence in the 1000 block of Weeks Island Road shortly after 9:30 a.m. Jan. 5. Deputies responded to the location and found her body near an RV at the home.
According to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Tren Jude Mallet, 31, stabbed LeBlanc during a domestic dispute. Mallet, identified as LeBlanc’s boyfriend, was still at the scene when deputies arrived and was charged with one count of second-degree murder.
Mallet was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail, where he is being held on $400,000 bond.
