Rain forecast for today and Thursday

The first rainfall of 2019 is expected to fall before noon today with an greater amount forecast for Thursday in the Teche Area, according to the National Weather Service.
There is a 60 percent chance of showers this morning, a spokesman for the NWS in Lake Charles reported Tuesday afternoon. The high today should be about 65.

Tonight’s rain chances increase to 90 percent, according to the NWS with between a quarter and half-an-inch possible.
Heavy rain is forecast for today into Thursday with rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches in many areas of southwest and south central Louisiana.
Weather forecasters report that there is a 60 percent rain chance this evening.
There are flash flood concerns particularly for those along Sabine River and the Calcasieu River, NOAA/NWS Lake Charles Service Hydrologist Jonathan Brazzell reported. The probability of more rain will increase the flood potential along those rivers, Brazzell said.
The wet weather should leave the region before Friday, which is forecast to be mostly sunny with a high near 55.
Saturday’s forecast also calls for sunny skies with a high near 62.
