- Catholic High’s Evan Nguyen clears the bar at the District 7-2A track meet. Nguyen is the third seed in today’s pole vault competition at the Class 2A State Meet which will be held at LSU.
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Outdoor State Track and Field meet started Thursday with Classes B and C and continues today with Classes A and 2A and finishes Saturday with Classes 3A, 4A and 5A.

While no Teche Area School is expected to compete for a state title, several athletes enter the meet with very good chances to pull down an individual state title or at least finish in the top three and stand on the podium when the winners are announced.
Today’s meet starts with field events at 1:30 p.m. and running events getting under way at 5 p.m.
Saturday, field events get underway at 10:45 a.m. and the first running event, the 4×800 meter relay, will start at 1:30 p.m.
Today’s meet (Classes A and 2A)
Catholic High is sending the most athletes to the state meet this year as CHS is sending 12 athletes in nine events.
Most of the athletes goingto the state meet for CHS are male athletes and the majority of them have good chances to either win their resepctive event or finish on the podium.

For CHS, Nicholas Russell hopes to win his fourth combined pole vault title as the senior has won two indoor titles in his signature event and one outdoor title.
The UL signee enters the pole vault competition as the top seed and teammate Evan Nguyen enters as the third seed in the event.
UL football signee Peter LeBlanc goes to the state meet as the top seed in two events, the 300 meter hurdles and the triple jump.
Trey Amos heads to the state meet as the sixth seed in the long jump while another UL track signee, Kaiden Burgess, is the third seed in the javelin.
CHS’s 4×400 meter relay team of Chris Landry, Zoe Cormier, Eli Fitch and LeBlanc are the fifth seed in the race.
On the girls side for CHS, Anna Gonsoulin, the defending Class 2A state champion in the javelin, enters this year’s competition as the third seed.
Abigail Richthofen goes to the state meet as the second seed in the shot put and finally, Ashlyn Broussard is the fifth seed in the 400 meters.
For Delcambre, Amalie Bouton is the second seed in the girls pole vault; Nyhelia Ellis is the second seed in the high jump and the third seed in the 300 hurdles.
Chloe Hernandez is the second seed in the discus and the 4×200 relay team of Hernandez, Ellis, Kamryn Darby and Kelsea Monceaux enter the event as the second seed.
Jeanerette will send a few athletes to the state meet as Tyrell Brooks goes as the second seed in the shot put; Shirlysha McCreary is the seventh seed in the 100 meters and the 4×200 meter relay team of McCreary, Delexcia McCreary Tionne Williams and Diamond Walters are the ninth seed in the event.
Franklin Senior High will send three relay teams to the state meet.
The boys 4×100 meter and 4×200 meter teams will consist of Cahy’mon Wingate, Kentrell Louis, Braydon Ward and Maklik King, while the girls 4×100 meter relay team will consist of Ty Coleman, Antonaiza Jack, Shay’andrea Stewart and Makhia Fernandez.
And finally in Class 2A, West St. Mary’s Brandy Washington is the fifth seed in the 300 meter hurdles.
In Class A, the Highland Baptist girls will make their presence known at the LHSAA Outdoor State Track Meet today at LSU.
The Lady Bears are sending six athletes in four events to the state meet.
Bri Sensley is the fourth seed in the long jump, Marin Barras is the second seed in the discus, Maegan Champagne is the seventh seed in the 1600 meter and also runs a leg on the seventh seeded 4×400 meter relay team with Madison Champagne, Dusti Abshire and Payton Clark)
Hanson is sending Madi St. Blanc to the state meet and she is the 6th seed in the 3200 meters.
Centerville’s 4×200 relay team of Marquis Strawder, Tyler Gunner, Ezra Armstrong andXavier Armstrong is the ninth seed in the event.
Saturday’s meet
(Classes 3A, 4A and 5A)
In the larger classes, New Iberia Senior High will send seven people in four events to the state meet.
Josh Mason is the fourth seed in the long jump; Londyn Roberts in the tope seed in the 800 meters, Bra’lazjae Butts is the top seed in the girls 300 meter hurdles and the boys 4×400 meter relay team of Cameron Blake, Markel Linzer, Jayden Hall and Kendall Cleveland is the fourth seed in the race.
In Class 4A, Westgate will send six athletes in three events.
Kayvon Harris is the fifth seed in the high jump; Creed Courtois is the sixth seed in the pole vault and the boys 4×800 relay team of C’Andre Curley, Ethan Hamilton, Ian Judice and Dylan Creduer is the eighth seed.
For SMSH, Jordan Landry goes to the state meet as the fifth seed in the triple jump and the sixth seed in the high jump.
In Class 3A, Erath’s Jax Harrington in the top seed in the discus and the third seed in the shot put while the girls 4×800 meter relay team of Chloe Hardin, Catherine Sonnier, Lauren Sonnier and Heather Green is the fourth seed.
