The results of last year’s failed sales tax election for road maintenance is coming home to roost as the Iberia Parish Council prepares to discuss putting Le Bourgeois Road off limits to agricultural traffic due to a lack of money to maintain the road.
The discussion of limiting agricultural traffic on the short span, which also serves as access for Belle Place Middle and Elementary schools, is set for the council’s Public Works Committee hearing after its regular meeting.
Representatives for the parish have been negotiating with Iberia Parish School System leaders to find a way to improve the road, which may also figure in during Wednesday’s hearing.
During the regular meeting, the council is again scheduled to discuss millage rates for 2019, which are to be adopted on May 8.
It is also scheduled to again discuss the use of the former Dynamic Industries office at the Port of Iberia as a new home for portions of the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office clerical and training staff. The council and administration have continued to negotiate with the Port of Iberia board over maintenance costs in order to come to an agreement on the lease of the building.
The council will also meet as its Economic Development District board to approve another $55,000 for costs associated with the survey approval for the roundabout at Louisiana Highway 675 as a precursor to the Progress Point development. That meeting will occur before the regular meeting at 5:45 p.m.
The Iberia Parish Council will meet for its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the parish council meeting room on the fourth floor of the Iberia Parish Courthouse, 300 Iberia St.
