Festival set Saturday in St. Martinville

- A reenactment of the Acadians’ arrival in the Attakapas will be part of the Acadian Memorial Festival Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in St. Martinville.
ST. MARTINVILLE — The Acadian Memorial Heritage Fest is back again for its 14th time on the banks of the Bayou Teche.
The festival, held in Evangeline Oak Park across from the St. Martinville City Hall, will feature food, music, arts and crafts, theater, demonstrations and children’s activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
This year’s fest will honor the Benoit and Savoie/Savoy families and feature the traditional reenactment of the arrival of Acadian families to the Attakapas region.
The day kicks off at 9:45 a.m. with the National Anthem and flag raising ceremony. In addition to offerings of food and crafts, there will be cooking demonstrations throughout the day and demonstrations from the staff of the Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site on making traditional toys and games.
Adeline Miller and Amis du Teche will perform traditional Cajun music at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. There also will be theatrical performances in French at the Théâtre Cadien.
The Acadian Memorial will be open throughout the day free of charge.
