A celebration of Life for John “Johnny” Joseph Gardner Sr., 69, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019, at Star Pilgrim Baptist Church, 423 East Pershing St., in New Iberia. Pastor Donald Wright will officiate the services.
Interment will follow in St. Matthew Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019, at the church until time of services.
John was born on Sunday, August 21, 1949, to the union of the late Cleveland Gardner and Martha Breaux-Gardner in New Iberia. He was a lifelong resident of New Iberia, where he attended school, married the former Verna Mae Keal and reared his children.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two daughters, Belinda Gardner and Lena Gardner; two grandsons, LaKeith Smothers Jr. and Kanden Londo; great-grandson Dillon Smothers; and three siblings, Herbert Gardner, Shirley Johnson and Annie Mae Gardner.
John passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 7, 2019 here in New Iberia.
“Johnny,” as he was affectionately called, leaves to cherish his life and memory his wife Verna Mae Keal-Gardner of Birmingham, Alabama; a devoted friend, Belinda Londo of New Iberia; five children, John Gardner Jr., Charmaine (Tawona) Londo, Lakeith (Carla) Londo, Troy Londo, Brian Londo, Jermaine Londo and Cindy Londo, all of New Iberia; one sister, Lillie Mae Gardner of New Iberia; 26 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
