Catholic High gets back to .500 in District 7-2A

Kaiden Burgess had a game-high 13 points and Javian Willis added 12 as Catholic High evened its District 7-2A record at 4-4 with a 52-33 win over West St. Mary Friday.

Kolbe Chretien and Trey Amos each had nine points for the Panthers, who jumped out to a 12-5 first quarter lead and pulled away from there with the win.

Javon Robertson and Jac-kyric Roberson each had eight points for WSM in the loss as the Wolfpack fall to 12-8 and  6-3  in district.

The Wolfpack play host to Jeanerette Tuesday.

Catholic High (16-12 overall) travels to Loreauville Monday.

St. Martinville  75,

Livonia  67

ST. MARTINVILLE — Jalen Mitchell had 21 points as St. Martinville Senior High stopped a three-game losing skid with a 75-67 District 5-4A win over Livonia Friday.

Datavyious Gabriel added 19 points and Tanner Harrison chipped in 11 for the Tigers (10-19, 3-3 district), who scored 47 points in the second half to claim the win.

Jeremy Richard led Livonia (19-11, 1-5) with 19 points.

SMSH travels to Cecilia Tuesday.

St. Thomas More 55, Westgate 51

LAFAYETTE — Carter Domingue scored 16 points and Jaden Shelvin added 11 as St. Thomas More avenged a 61-54 loss to Westgate earlier this season with a 55-51 win Friday at STM.

With the win, the Cougars improved to 14-9 overall and 3-3 in district while Westgate fell to 16-9 and also at 3-3 in district play.

Both teams are chasing Carencro, which had a perfect 6-0 record in district.

Keydrain Calligan led the Tigers with 18 points.

WHS plays host to Carencro Tuesday.

New Iberia 54, Acadiana 50

SCOTT — Ralph Johnson had 19 points and Jake Lovette added 13 as New Iberia Senior High made it two straight wins with a 54-50 District 3-5A victory over Acadiana Friday.

Jaquan Latula finished with six points for the Jackets, who trailed 30-27 at halftime but rallied in the second half for the win.

Individual scorers for Acadiana (13-12, 1-2 district) were not available.

NISH (15-11, 2-1) played at White Castle Saturday and returns to district play Tuesday at Sulphur.

In other Teche Area boys’ games Friday, Franklin stayed perfect on the season in District 7-2A with a 71-29 win over Delcambre; Jeanerette’s winning streak reached four games with a 68-56 win over Ascension Episcopal; Centerville beat Gueydan 65-34; Hanson lost to Lafayette Christian 65-49; Highland Baptist lost to Central Catholic 96-45 and Berwick beat Erath 57-29.

Individual statistics from those games were not provided to The Daily Iberian.

 

Girls

Franklin 64, Delcambre 60

FRANKLIN — Sta’Trail Butler scored 17 points as Franklin stunned Delcambre 64-60 in District 7-2A Friday. 

Aaliyah Smith added 16 points and Irulan Toussaint finished with 13 points as the Lady Hornets took a 14-11 first quarter lead and held on for the win to move to 13-14 overall and 8-3 in district.

It was Delcambre’s first district loss of the season as the Lady Panthers fell to 16-9, 10-1 and hold a one-game lead over Catholic High for the district championship.

Chloe Hernandez had a game-high 21 points and Tayah Lewis finshed with 19 for the Lady Panthers, who play host to Vermilion Catholic Monday in a non-district game and Academy of the Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau Tuesday in a district game.

Franklin travels to Ascension Episcopal Monday for a district game and then play host to Sacred Heart Tuesday in its home finale.

Catholic High 51, West St. Mary 30

Madison Bienvenu had 18 points and Lauren Bonin added 16 as Catholic High pulled within one game of District 7-2A leading Delcambre 51-30 Friday night.

Zy’Rien Green added six points as the Lady Panthers (15-9, 10-2) are one game behind Delcambre in the race for the District 7-2A title. 

Catholic High travels to Loreauville Monday, then closes the regular season at home against Delcambre Thursday.

Breashale Alexander led WSM (4-10, 4-7) with eight points. The Lady Wolfpack play host to Jeanerette Monday and closes the regular season at home against Sacred Heart-Grand Coteau Thursday.

In other games Friday, NISH lost to Acadiana 42-41; Westgate lost to St. Thomas More, no score was available; Erath lost to Berwick 46-19; Ascension Episcopal beat Jeanerette 33-31 and Lafayette Christian beat Hanson 61-12.
