The Louisiana Water Company has issued a water boil order Thursday night for the city of New Iberia due to a mechanical failure.

Residents are advised to boil all water for cooking or drinking for a full minute, starting when the water has come to a full boil, LAWCO said. The advisory is only a precaution.

Showering and bathing are still safe.

LAWCO said that the advisory is expected to last through Saturday.
