Fred Mills: Why I am running for Senate District 22

I am a family man and a businessman. Other than while away at school, where I met and married my college sweetheart, Debbie, I have been a lifelong resident of District 22. For over 30 years, I have owned small businesses helping to create hundreds of jobs. As a representative I have focused on cutting taxes, reducing the size of government, opposing the drilling moratorium, and demanding government work smarter. I am convinced we need more people paying fewer taxes rather than less people paying more taxes. I have stood with our farmers. I have stood with our families to protect the life of the unborn. I am unapologetically pro-life, pro-business, and pro family.
During Governor Foster’s administration I served as Director for the Board of Pharmacy, Vice-Chairman of St. Martin Hospital, President of an Economic Development Board, President and CEO of Farmers-Merchants Bank, Parish Councilman, and current Chair of the Seafood Safety Task Force Commission.

I believe in keeping things simple and working with groups to find common ground and to find cooperation that ultimately leads to unity. That is why I am seeking to be your next Senator. Together I want to hit our problems head on and seek out opportunities for the next generation. I have done that as a State Representative. People ask me why in these troubled times would you run for the office of State Senate. I offer this verse from the Bible to answer that question. “To whom much is given. Much will be required.” Today we enjoy the fruits of hard work and sacrifice from our past generations. I have been blessed with so much that I offer my skill set of leadership, faith and gratitude to the people living in Iberia and St. Martin. I want to fight for our future.
