ST. MARTINVILLE — Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Walter Alexander Jr., 80, who passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia.

Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum.

Fr. Augustinus Seran, SVD, will officiate at the Funeral Mass.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Fontenette Alexander, of St. Martinville; two sons Deacon Norman Alexander and his wife, Jewel, of Memphis, Tenn., and MSgt. Dwight Alexander of London, England; three daughters Debra Alexander Rogers and her husband, Willie, of St. Martinville, Gail Alexander Dalcourt and her husband, Henry, of Youngsville and Wendy Alexander of St. Martinville; his sister Melvina Savoy of New Orleans; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law Henry Fontenette of St. Martinville; and two sisters-in-law Mecora Fontenette and Merline Fontenette, both of St. Martinville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Walter Alexander Sr. and Eunice Etienne Alexander; three brothers Willis, Wallace and Percy Alexander; and three sisters Yvonne Francois, Daisy Sam and Mary Wiltz.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, with a recitation of the Rosary at 9 a.m.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the Critical Care Unit at Dauterive Hospital, for the care and attention given to him during his illness.
