The Issues for the Senate Race: Ruben LeBlanc

If elected Senator to represent District 22 how do you feel about:

Reducing taxes?

I would move to eliminate State income and Property Taxes as well as reducing a wide variety of fees. Keep more of the Oil and Gas Revenues here in the State.

Supporting offshore drilling and the offshore drilling moratorium’s impact on the state?

I support Drilling both on and off shore. I like “Drill Baby Drill” coupled with being the safest oil and gas producing State with little or no Federal interference. We can keep the industry in the best shape a the State level. The Governor should have gone to the Legislature for a unified voice and lifted the moratorium from the state level with the warning to the Federal Government (and the President), that any further intrusions in the states affairs will be received as a breach of the peace and actions will be taken accordingly.

Economic development in the district?

The best way for any District to have Economic growth and development is to: 1) Buy locally, and support your local stores and farmers markets and other small businesses; and 2) From the State level we can eliminate the “Self-employment Tax” and the paperwork and red tape on the self-employed and small businesses. If they have more of what they worked for then that prosperity will circulate around that community 6 are 7 times. Sending money to Baton Rouge or Washington and hoping to get some back is like hiring illegal aliens and watching them send their money home. It does not support local economic development.

The Acadiana Regional Airport has been recognized recently by the Louisiana State Department of Economic Development as one of the major economic engines of the region. What will you do as senator to ensure that this local resource reaches its potential?

Since we are located in the center of the State and the Nation, I would try to get Cruise Ships to use our Ports to the entire Gulf of Mexico. The Airport and Gulf could compliment each other for both Destinations and Transportation as well as Interstate Commerce.

What development do you envision seeing in the recently created TIF districts in Iberia Parish? What in your opinion needs to be done to capture the greatest potential there?

My vision of the TIF (Tax Increment Financing) Districts in Louisiana is that this piece of garbage gets repealed ASAP. California invented this in 1952 and today the State of California is a giant TIF District, (with over 400 TIFs). The purpose of this is to capture taxes from future tax revenues and use them now. Let me see if I got this right: the government has spent everything it collects already  and wants to now use up the taxes revenues from our children and future generations. Also, with a new level of government accountable to no one, with power to declare any area in it’s way a “blight district”, by “eminent domain”. Your property could be confiscated without a fight. This is an example of what is wrong and why we should not keep sending people without a proper understanding of the Constitution to make decisions for us. The part in the Constitution; “and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our  Posterity” clearly addresses this. Our Children cannot enjoy those Liberties if they are obligated for our debt before they are born. This is selling our children into servitude.

How will you ensure that the interests of both St. Martin and Iberia parishes are represented at the state level?

I will promote this area of the State and the goods and services that this area is famous for. I don’t plan to vote for “pet project” for the benefit of a few, while the good of the whole state suffers. I will support one Vote, one Item, one Bill Every time. (V.I.B.E.)  Also, I will work with local communities to help bring more constitutionally mind people to the table.
