Joyce Dugas Romero

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2011, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Joyce Dugas Romero, 66, who died Thursday, January 6, 2011, in New Iberia.

Entomb-ment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Rev. Jude Thierry will be the Celebrant. Lacy Touchet and Brandi Briggs will proclaim the readings. Gift Bearers include Ryeley Broussard, Devon Briggs, Keeghan Romero and Linzi Romero.

Born on September 1, 1944, Mrs. Romero was a native and lifelong resident of Iberia Parish. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play baseball, being outdoors and playing cards.

Survivors include her father, Alden J. Dugas, of New Iberia; daughter Trudy A. Romero and friend Matt Romero of New Iberia; son Troy A. Romero and fiancé Lacy Touchet of New Iberia; grandchildren Ryeley Broussard, Brandi Briggs, Linzi Romero, Devon Briggs, Keegan Romero; great-grandchildren Carsen Matthews and Camren Broussard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton “Pete” Romero; mother, Victoria Fremin Dugas; and a sister Barbara A. Dugas.

Pallbearers will be Troy Romero, Trudy A. Romero, Matt Romero, Eddie Labit, Pat Norris and Harold Landry.

Honorary pallbearers include Devon Briggs, Keegan Romero, Alden J. Dugas, Lester Champagne, Tommy Zeringue and Larry Broussard.

A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd. in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
