Autumn was officially in full stride in New Iberia Saturday as hundreds gathered downtown to experience the New Iberia Halloween Parade.
The annual event, which is quickly becoming one of the most popular parades in New Iberia, kicked off at the New Iberia Civic Center where Mayor Freddie DeCourt turned the fountain black as a start to the parade.
Children dressed like it was Halloween, and there was indeed plenty of candy to be found as the parade kicked off and elaborately colored trailers, golf carts and walkers set off down Main Street to toss their throws of candy to the excited children on each side of the road.
“Ghostbusters,” “Hocus Pocus” and plenty of ghosts and ghouls could be seen as part of the parade procession, and following the end of the parade there was a trunk or treat available in Bouligny Plaza, ushering in the Halloween season.
